About
Chiara Giovando is Director and Curator of the Institute of Contemporary Art Santa Fe. A curator, artist, and writer, her work spans contemporary art, experimental sound and performance, archives, and artist-centered institution building. She has served as Director and Curator of Human Resources Los Angeles (HRLA), Curator in Residence at Disjecta Contemporary Art Center, and Archives Manager at the Poeh Cultural Center at Pojoaque Pueblo. As an independent curator, she has developed exhibitions and projects with institutions including UKS, Oslo, and Kunsthal 44 Møen, Denmark, and produced artist projects at REDCAT, Tate Modern, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among others. Her archival work has ranged from Fluxus and European experimental practices, including a curatorial fellowship with René Block that culminated in “Hammer Without a Master: Henning Christiansen’s Archive”, to her work at the Poeh Cultural Center, where she conceived the publication “Then and Now” and conducted eighteen original oral histories. She founded the gallery Panel LA and sound art residency Thousand Points of Light in Joshua Tree, CA, and initiated the “Sound Structures” series in San Francisco. Giovando received her MFA from California Institute of the Arts and holds a Certificate in Museum Studies from the Institute of American Indian Arts.
